free things to replace picnik

Renee McDaniel I personally use Gimp. A friend of mine who has a professional photog business told me about it. You can do almost everything with Gimp that you can with Photoshop (and Gimp is free; it's an "open source" program). It's a great program, IMO. :)

sugar equivalents

Profile picture of Amy Buck West

Amy Buck West 100% agreed Bobbi!

Profile picture of Thrifty Decor Chick

Thrifty Decor Chick I think it's a great comparison when you consider that the "real" sugars in veggies and fruits are MUCH better for you. I think it actually shows how little sugar there is in the fruits -- many think it's much worse and avoid them.

Profile picture of Shana

Shana So true! Fruit sugars are so much better for you - and accompanied by fiber that offset them. I think TDC is right - this shows in comparison how little sugar there is in fruit as compared to candy or soda.

Profile picture of Jennifer Farley

Jennifer Farley I think what Bobbi means is that, based off of this, it looks as though you can have 3 cookies and get the same amount of sugar as the pineapple but never explains the differences between Natural sugars vs. Processed sugars. Most of us are smart enough to realize this, but to some they may say "Wow! I'll take the cookies and it'll make no difference at all!!" Still good to see and put into perspective!! I would love to see one of these for a V8 Fusion... and maybe some frozen yogurt from Sweet Frog!! ;)

Profile picture of Jennifer Farley

Jennifer Farley BTW, I would have never guessed that Watermelon had that much sugar in it!! Would have totally thought the cantaloupe and strawberries had more.

MATTRESS spring cleaning:pour about 1 cup of baking soda into a mason jar and drop in 4 drops of lavender essential oil. Put on the lid and shake up the jar.Using a kitchen strainer sprinkle the baking soda mixture all over the mattress and let it sit. I leave it for an hour or more, usually the time it takes for me to finish washing all the bedding and press the bed skirt. Using the hose end of your vacuum and an upholstery attachment, thoroughly vacuum the mattress. Bye, bye dust mites and other nasty things. The baking soda helps draw up any moisture and deep dirtiness. It deodorizes and leaves the mattress smelling fresh and clean. I also love the faint scent of lavender left by the essential oil.

Put warm water into the dirty pan or cookie sheet, lay the dryer sheet (or sheets) flat in the water and leave it to sit overnight. In the morning, the baked-on stuff will either have lifted off, or will be very easy to slough off with a spatula or other flat object.

Cooking Spray as Candlestick Cleaner.... spray the inside of the votive holder with a thin coating of cooking spray before dropping in a tea light. After the candle has burned down, the remaining wax will slip out. (thanks real simple)

This sounds amazing, so I must try: 1. Identify areas of your wooden furniture that are unsightly because they have been bumped or scraped. 2. Get your walnut. 3. Rub the walnut on the damaged area. 4. Watch in amazement as the damaged area begins to darken.

TIP FOR KEEPING BERRIES FROM GOING MOLDY!! When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted I find you can't taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and I've had strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.

JessiLee Milakovic An offset spatula? Check the party section at walmart (there they have the wedding favors and cake decorating items) if you can't find them with the kitchen stuff. There should be at least two sizes. If not, Jo-Anne Fabrics carries a lot of Wilton products, offset spatulas included.
