Before updating or touching up a chair or small, lightweight table, elevate it over the work surface by gently tapping a nail into the bottom of each leg. The legs will get better air circulation for drying and won't stick to the surface.

Kathy Hackman Hutchison my home is small, simple, but most importantly I hope people feel comfortable when they come in:)..I have to tell you ..I tried the new Martha Stewart Metalic paint....I have been trying to neutralize my house, getting rid of all my faux walls, etc...and now I have found that:>)))) Maybe I can't sell!!:)and will just stay forever..Haunt the place ( we have been the only owners) I would be a friendly ghost:>))))))

Profile picture of Mary Hogland

Mary Hogland I have been using this chalk paint recipe (room temperature water) and I LOVE it!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE. It covers high gloss furniture beautifully with no prep. I put two coats on, then clear wax then usually a dark wax over to antique. It gives a great durable finish and sands beautifully for a distressed look. I have never broke down and purchased the 35 dollar Annie Sloan chalk paint so I do not know how it compares, but for the price I am thrilled. :)

Several people have contacted me and said "DO NOT DO THIS" --it will not come off......... Dry erase marker on the washer for clothes that are inside that shouldn't be dried! Okay...this is brilliant.

Profile picture of Carol Bartraw

Carol Bartraw So just to clarify....is it the dry erase marker we are talking about here, not another type of marker like Sharpie?

Profile picture of Tobi McDaniel

Tobi McDaniel i actually used a washable dry erase marker. it only stayed on through the wash cycle. when i went to erase it, thats when i realized it didnt erase as easily as it should have, and stained my washer. then used the magic e, and soft scrub to try and remove it. and still has a stain. i dunno if different surfaces are more porous than others. so you might want to test it in an inconspicuous place on your washer before writing all over it.

Profile picture of Carol Bartraw

Carol Bartraw Thanks Tobi. I am very glad to be aware not to do this. I'm sorry your washer got stained.

Profile picture of Karin Ristau

Karin Ristau Going to give that a try! Vinaigrette - cute!!! LOL

Profile picture of Peggy Ann

Peggy Ann I don't know if I would use basic vegetable oil. Over time it might become sticky. Lemon oil for furniture would be better, I think. Or Old English.

Dana Wright That is so cool!

Profile picture of Shannon Brooks

Shannon Brooks Be careful what oil you use! Some can be skin sensitizers and over time, it will seep into the toilet paper. I would only use gentle oils like lavender or chamomile, especially if there are children using it!

Brilliant! Why didn't I know this already? -- This link is actually for breakfast sandwiches (which you can freeze, who knew?!) but I also love the idea to cook eggs in muffin tins if you have a lot of people to feed and don't want to slave over a hot stove the whole time.

Genius! ------1-2-3 Cake. I LOVE this idea!!! You need two boxes of cake mix. One can be any flavor you prefer, but the other MUST be Angel Food cake mix. Mix them together (shake them in a big ziploc bag or stir them together in a big bowl). Then simply store the mixture in an airtight container until you get the urge for dessert. Then just put three tablespoons of the dry mixture in a big coffee mug and stir in two tablespoons of water. Microwave it for one minute and you will have a single serving of cake! Top with fruit, ice cream whipped cream or whatever. :):):) Awesome for those of us who want something sweet every now without making an entire cake!!
