Disused shipping containers that have been refurbished for use as homes, offices, studios, and more.
Shipping containers are lounging areas (filled with a mix of second-hand furniture), wood pallets form a covered stage (pictured in the background), old crates are new lamps, and empty beer cans are filled with plants -- lots of creative reuse at The Foundry (beer garden), outside the Chicken Scratch restaurant in Dallas, Texas. Even if you aren't a fan of cargotecture -- buildings constructed from shipping containers -- who *wouldn't* want to stay in this house in Colorado? Two used shipping containers flank a two-level space that opens onto a deck on the other side. Designed to be off-grid -- generating its own electricity -- with green roofs on the shipping containers, among other green features. What's not to love?

School in rural South Africa built from a used shipping container. (Definitely not an ordinary one-room red schoolhouse!) Pretty fun-looking, isn't it?

Really like the compact design of this shipping container cabana.

One of the most distinctive-looking conversions of retired shipping containers that I've come across. For this two-container residence in Slovenia, a portion of the bottom container's roof serves as a terrace.

It's possible to build airy, light-filled spaces out of repurposed shipping containers. This is a really well-done example of #cargotecture.

Repurposed shipping containers + pallets = one cool residence. (#cargotecture + #palletecture!)
