Have any of you seen something like this before -- a wine barrel turned into a sink?! I kind of like the idea.

Jessie Turner-Grant I bought my mom-in-law one and it has been really sturdy so far.

Unconsumption @Jessie Turner-Grant -- Thanks for saying so. That's good to know!

Angie Mills For longer life----Don't leave glass wind chimes out in high winds or extreme cold temps.

Unconsumption @Angie Mills -- Good points. Thanks for mentioning!

Raitis Gocentas Might be worth making rings from the thick glass neck part, these wouldn't break for sure.

Unconsumption @Sealbhach Skye -- Well . . . wearing a full set of clothes (not a bathing suit) would be practical methinks! :)

Profile picture of Unconsumption

Unconsumption Also, probably not very practical to have if kids are around!

Misty Blue Maybe it's for looks and not for sits.

Cherri Moore We have stuff like this all over the South. It is a take on the bottle tree. I have a bottle dragonfly in my yard. I like this one. And yes, it is for show only.

Love this repurposing of wine bottles: Maria Bang Espersen cuts, grinds, and sandblasts bottles to make these small serving bowls.

How's this for creative repurposing: wine barrel turned into dog house. Potential DIY project for many people.

Make stamps with craft foam and old wine corks. This DIY idea (and tutorial) has made the rounds online, so you might have seen it -- it's a good repurposing idea!

Susan Rowe Harrison Top tips for a smooth edge? I love making glasses, etc from bottles but my edges are always rough.

Profile picture of Unconsumption

Unconsumption Hi Susan, I haven't tried making my own, but I've read that sanding the edges works, especially if the cut's a pretty even one (not really jagged). Has sanding worked for you? --Molly

Profile picture of Unconsumption

Unconsumption Susan -- additional note -- Last month on the Unconsumption blog/Tumblr, I posted something about glass-cutting which includes a link to a video. May be of help to you?? http://unconsumption.tumblr...

Susan Rowe Harrison Thank you Molly! I will take a look at the video. I have sandpaper that came with the cutting tool but it always seems a biit rough.

Paula Thornton I've always been a sucker for blue bottles. Not sure what it is about them. Have a really hard time throwing them out (or recycling them).

Unconsumption @paula, same here!

Save #wine corks and use them as handles for hors d’oeuvre/food spreaders. #DIY

Unconsumption @Lori Delfino Cento -- Same here! I kind of like this version better than corks simply strung like beads onto twine/string (which I also like!). --Molly

Corks = back splash. Nice #repurposing idea.

Bottle trees are a fun, decorative use of empty wine bottles. Pictured is one of metal artist Stephanie Dwyer's creations. For other bottle tree pix/ideas, check out Felder Rushing's site: felderrushing.net...

I really like drinking glasses made from used wine bottles. (The folks who make these use bottles from local restaurants.)

Another fun way to repurpose corks: Wire them together to make a durable doormat. The mat also could be hung on a wall -- for decoration and/or use as a bulletin board.
