We seldom see everyday objects like bottles look this beautiful. Now this is different: Used pool balls (billiard balls) made into rings.

Another idea for the garden-related repurposing file: Old metal wheels — look for them at flea markets — wired together to make edging for a planting bed.

Now here’s something to add to the mix of garden-related repurposing: Garden tools made into a gate.

Old broken bike wheels make great (and beautiful) trellises for plants.

Shipping containers are lounging areas (filled with a mix of second-hand furniture), wood pallets form a covered stage (pictured in the background), old crates are new lamps, and empty beer cans are filled with plants -- lots of creative reuse at The Foundry (beer garden), outside the Chicken Scratch restaurant in Dallas, Texas. Click through for additional photos.

I kind of love this stage / bandshell constructed from pallets. At The Foundry (beer garden) in Dallas, where shipping containers are used as lounging areas (with mismatched second-hand furniture), old crates are new lamps, and empty beer cans are filled with plants. I like the idea of using worn book covers as canvases for paintings like this artist, Rose Sanderson, does.

Even if you aren't a fan of cargotecture -- buildings constructed from shipping containers -- who *wouldn't* want to stay in this house in Colorado? Two used shipping containers flank a two-level space that opens onto a deck on the other side. Designed to be off-grid -- generating its own electricity -- with green roofs on the shipping containers, among other green features. What's not to love?

Gotta say, this mosaic table — with tile inlaid between the wood slats of a pallet — is one of the better-looking pallet-repurposing projects I've seen. Made by Stephane Beauchet.

Artist Julie Kornblum's globe covered in plastic -- that is, crocheted plarn (yarn made from plastic bags) -- definitely makes a colorful statement about "plastic covering the Earth," doesn't it? Click through to the post for links to tutorials to DIY -- to turn your own plastic bags into yarn, great to use for knitting or crocheting. #EarthDay

Brittany VanderMoore What about plexiglass?? I have a glass top table that's broken and think that's the next fix; at least til the kids grow up.

Profile picture of Unconsumption

Unconsumption @Brittany VanderMoore -- Seems like plexiglass could work. The idea of using glass came from the DIY Network's post itself. --Molly

Why wait until next Easter to reuse plastic Easter eggs -- why not use them today as portable snack carriers or sewing kits, or turn them into bird feeders?

Unconsumption @Paula Thornton -- Will do! I'm a condo-dweller, so I'm definitely a fan of container gardening. :)

Here’s another simple gardening-related repurposing idea: DIY “watering can” — made from a plastic jug. Heat the end of a needle to make small holes for water to pour through.
