Nebraska Ordnance Plant - Mead, Nebraska

From the Nebraska State Historical Society...Article Title: “The Home Front,” part of ‘What Did You Do During the War?’, a special issue devoted to first-person accounts by Nebraskans. Contains information about the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead, Nebraska.

On December 7, 1991, the Nebraska State Historical Society opened a major exhibit on Nebraska’s role during World War II. The exhibit, “What Did You Do in the War?” encompasses activities of Nebraskans on the home front and overseas from the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor to V-J Day. The Society has produced this educational packet for teachers to use with their classes in conjunction with their own studies of World War II. However, it is interesting for anyone to read.

Women were the primary workforce at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead during World War II. Here is an interesting article from the Omaha World Herald.
