They always found themselves lost, so they didn't bother going anywhere but the beach most days.

When he was high, he made her feel low. And when she was low, all she wanted was a pair of wings and a cotton candy sky and a lover who could take her there. Until then, she just looked down at her feet and tried to find the steps to walk away.

He called out to her happily and said the day couldn't get much better, could it. So she stopped right there in the middle of the path and showed him that, in fact, it could.

She thought it only fitting to blindfold him and hide in the corners of the motel room, calling out "polo!" to his "marco!" and waiting for his fingers to find her. They always found her...

She meant well. She really did. She sharpened her pencils and outlined her chapters and even named her characters and their babies, but the sunshine was far too alluring. She followed it out to the back garden, which is exactly where she lost her plot. Barefoot in the tomatoes.

He found her waiting on his front porch, half a bottle away from a bold declaration, plucking all the flowers from his bush and whispering to herself. "He loves me, he thinks I'm hot, he loves me, he thinks I'm hot." He didn't need even one sip to make a bold declaration of his own. Yep. He loved her. Also, he thought she was blazing hot.

She was moving up, she thought. From a two bedroom, two and a half bath to a five and four full. The movers tried packing up her globe collection and wondered why the hell they were so heavy. "Oh," she remembered. "They're piggy banks. I was saving up to travel around the world..." And all of a sudden her Malibu view didn't look so big.

The afternoon sun suggested they settle up the check and head their separate ways to wash up for dinner...but instead they ordered another round and decided it wasn't such a bad idea to stay and be dirty together.

It was the strangest thing. As soon as she met him, she started seeing messages all over town that - if she didn't know better - were little love notes from him to her. So her mom was right, then. When you meet the one, your eyes can finally see the whole rainbow. Damn, but it was a beautiful view.
