She used to be a banker. One day, her boss looked at her with a confused scowl and asked if she'd combed her hair. Because, to him, it looked like she hadn't. She, in fact, hadn't. She walked out that day thinking it was the best idea he'd ever had. And she just kept going...

He couldn't tell her a thing about danger. Truly, he was in more when he was with her than she ever was without him.

She agreed to sing at his wedding, and not one of us was surprised when she showed up in white. It made perfect sense; she should have been the bride, anyway. And when he said "I do?" He looked right at her.

She knew her best side and how to tilt her head just so and how the right lashes and hint of pink could turn an average profile into an unforgettable one. She made sure it was the last side of hers he ever saw. Take it from me...it worked. He never ever forgot that girl.

She waited for him every day without fail on the front steps, and he could guess her mood the minute he caught sight of her costumes. For sure, Naked Woodland Fairy was his favorite, but Indian Chief on the War Path wasn't so bad, either.

She had this adorable quirk of gasping before she spoke. Which was somewhat serendipitous...since most everything she said made us gasp, too.

She spent a year channeling her inner mermaid, which made us all roll our eyes for the first few months until we understood how hard she was choking on land. By June, we'd all bought inflatable kiddie pools. Just in case.

He apologized sweetly for the motel. Said it was the best he could do but oh, how he wanted to do better. So he opened the blinds, slid the Please Come Back Later sign on the door, and he did better.
He was an architect who was currently wooing a model who stole his every breath away if he looked at her, spoke to her, or even thought of her. He never took her on client consults, though, because she made all of his rooms look like they were missing something structurally important the minute she walked out of them. Same went for her effect on his heart.

Her grandmother still did Pilates and swam for an hour each day, even at seventy-three, and repeatedly told her she needed to stay limber so that life could never break her. But she was young, and wouldn't understand the genius of her grandmother's words until much later. For now, she stayed limber because of him.

No one ever understood the irony of her outfits until they really got to know her. Which was ironic...since the only ones who wanted to know her were drawn to her outfits. Either way, her truth was found when her clothes were lost.

She sang to the morning sun and whispered secrets to the moon, but never really knew what to do with overcast afternoons. So he taught her about lazy lunches and noon naps and, soon enough, she was cooing at noon to the clouds that came with him to cover her.

Her views were drop-dead fabulous. But it must be said that her neighbors' views were even better.
They took off for a few nights together without ever formally meeting. Sometimes, all it takes is a shirtless boy and a borrowed hat to make you feel like magic could happen. Just be careful of real life sneaking in and breaking the spell. Whatever you do, don't take off that hat. Or...put on your shirt.

He made things with fallen flowers and broken leaves that only lived on fairy tale pages, and took the same care with her broken and crushed parts. He didn't set her heart on fire, no...but she stayed with him for her someday babies. And they would thank her as much as he would. She just knew it.

The way she looked at him when she wanted him made him want to lift weights, learn the guitar, figure out how to make the perfect pizza crust, take up painting, take more chances, take the leap, make babies...Yes, the way she looked at him when she wanted him made him want better for them both. Their babies could come on the second date...

Her love life was kind of like a rainforest. Forever wet and not nearly enough sunshine.

He spent his life trying to make her laugh. It was the greatest sound he'd heard since Lou Reed live and his name on his mother's lips, and he thought he could get used to making that his life's most important work. Making his girl laugh. It was a very good plan, indeed.

Her performance review stated clearly that she lacked focus. Was easily distracted. Often seemed like her mind was elsewhere, outside of the office. She said a heartfelt thank you to her boss because it was all true. And a huge part of true happiness is surrounding yourself with people who really know you.
