CLEANING 101

Any and all things to do with cleaning, in whatever form, with whatever product. Something we all must do unless we are fortunate enough to have a maid, or cleaning person. I love finding tips, tricks, and new alternatives to old ideas, especially anything that will make the process easier and even somewhat enjoyable.

This long-forgotten gem of a cleaning agent may be used with a little water or vinegar to lift even the most stubborn stains. Unattractive grout driving you batty? Mold and mildew stains got you reaching for the Prozac? Burner pans and casserole dishes giving you fits? Cream of Tartar is your new best friend.

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent and Scouring Powder..This recipe is slightly different from the one I've been using, but I think I'll give this one a try next time.

HAIR PRODUCT BUILDUP. Once a month use original Dawn as you would shampoo. It will remove excess oil from your hair and scalp and strip away any build-up of styling products without any damage. Perform this once a month and you won't have to buy expensive salon products that do the same thing.... use on your pet to keep fleas at bay!

One of the five dirtiest things in your kitchen is the handle on your refrigerator. The other four things are sponges, the sink, the faucet and the drain.

Take your favorite liquid fabric softener and soak an old hand towel or flour cloth completely with it. Wring it out and let it dry completely, then throw it in with your next load. This mega-fabric softener sheet should be good for at least 40 loads of laundry, stretching out softener use and lessening waste. In other words, save money. I have done this twice now, and won't be buying any more dryer sheets, at least not for this purpose. w.

Of all the homemade recipes for laundry soap I've seen, this one seems the easiest and most do-able for me. I can't find the washing soda or the castile soap that most of them call for but I know you can purchase these on Amazon. I like the fact that this uses Dawn dish soap which I use in so many other cleaning supplies. Can't wait to try it. w.

Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle. The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitizes, and helps remove the musty odor. Next, sprinkle a cupful of baking soda around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short cycle. The baking soda will help freshen and removing stains.

SINK CLEANER This sink cleaner is so simple you can whip up a paste for each use. 3 tsp Lemon juice 3 tbs Cream of Tartar (you'll find it in the spice isle) Combine the lemon juice and cream or tartar to make a paste. The proportions don't need to be exact, but the paste should be smooth and thick. Simply scrub it in gently and thoroughly then rinse it off to uncover your clean sink.

One of my favorite things, been using for years.Homemade spray and wash: In quart spray bottle pour 1/2 c. liquid laundry detergent, 1/2 c. ammonia and fill to top with water. Mix and spray on stains when needed. VERY economical and VERY effective.

Directions: 1 Heat vinegar in microwave until hot and pour into squirt bottle. 2 Add the Dawn soap. Put the lid on and gently shake to incorporate. 3 You now have a powerful cleaning product that will melt soap scum and tub and shower buildup, clean sinks, appliances and just about anything. Just spray it on, scrub, rinse and be amazed. For tough soap scum build-up, spray the mixture on and allow it to sit as long as overnight. Then, scrub and rinse.
