Acceptance is the universal currency of real friendship. It does not warp or shape or wrench a person to be anything other than what they are. Joan Chittister
Fate Hate Bingo, the eternal classic by Brian from Red No.3 -- yes, there are male Fat Acceptance bloggers as well, as men increasingly feel the pressure as well. After all, Famine's business needs new areas to grown into... Anyway, if it's on that card and the second one linked in the post (clicking through is love as always!), it's been a) disproved and b) been said at us all the time, so don't bother repeating it. Thank you!

HAES means 'Health at EVERY size'! I do not aim for or advocate weight loss. Please do not repin any of my pins to your pro-weight-loss boards; it only shows you're an illiterate who can't be bothered clicking through to the source, or is too brainwashed to even imagine that somebody might NOT wish to lose weight. 'Fat Acceptance' means being fat is okay, and I HATE seeing my content anywhere that blatantly promotes otherwise. Capisce?!? #HAES **repinned for new followers!

Now with official finishing photo from the website of the run/walk. I'm red faced and slow, but you know what? I don't mind. At all. I arrived, I did it, they said my name when I arrived, and I was totally high on endorphins.-

Avory Faucette Hurrah for HAES! I'm so frustrated by following self-improvement boards, health boards, etc. and finding fat-hatred, diet-speak, etc. Even "inspiration" boards aren't safe. Grr.
Maru Yakalskovich Unfollow them? Just don't let that garbage near your mind.-

And those standards ARE fascist -- there is verifiable quote by some mid-level Nazi official from 1937 about one's body not belonging to oneself but the community...
TEN STEPS TO HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE Think of these steps as a dance rather than a linear progression. Move from one to another and back again as fits your own personal style and journey. 1. Stop weighing yourself. Shift your focus from weight & body fat to healthy behaviors and fitness. 2. Live now, not in the past or future. Live your life as if you were at your desired weight—including wearing beautiful, comfortable clothing in your present size. 3. Eat well & mindfully. Enjoy your food. Let nothing be off-limits—there are no forbidden foods. 4. Listen to your body and give yourself and your body what you need to thrive: balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, regular exercise. 5. Love & accept yourself as you are, & others as they are. Refuse to engage in fat prejudice toward yourself or others. 6. Feed your soul with meaningful and enjoyable recreation, relationships, work, & spirituality. Clear out toxic environments / relationships / behavior patterns. Build a nourishing community: surrounding yourself with size-friendly people (friends, therapists, doctors) & images of happy, successful people of all sizes. 7. Connect mind & body. Increase body awareness through yoga, walking meditation, tai chi, qi gong, massage, & bodywork, movement therapy (such as Feldenkrais). Focus on what your body can do and how good it can feel. 8. Decrease self-criticism & body judgment, increase positive, supportive self-talk. Talk to yourself & your body the way you would a cherished friend or loved one. 9. Address any emotional eating or body image issues independent of weight change. Attitudes & opinions are easier (& healthier) to change than body size. 10. Invest time & money in yourself rather than the diet industry.

Maru Yakalskovich I usually tell them to click through when I see somebody doing that sort of thing. I do admit I pin stuff about sports and food that contains vegetables and fish and suchlike; but I LIKE that sort of food, and am cheerfully discovering new sports. However, I very much dislike it when they use that for their tired old-fashioned mainstream weight-loss shit.
Maru Yakalskovich OMG look at the repins on that one: http://pinterest.com/pin/21... -- are these people REALLY illiterate? WTF?
Kitt Lviv Hey you two! Any chance you'd be interested in joining a closed Facebook Group? Its called Rolls not Trolls and is a ninja commenting group on articles, blogs etc. that promote weight bigotry. The premise is you get the link, don't read the comments, leave your comment then get out. Some interesting discussions going on there too - its a great network. https://www.facebook.com/gr...
Maru Yakalskovich Am not on FB on principle; otherwise, it sounds like an interesting and worthwhile endeavour.-
Kitt Lviv I totally understand that :)

Maru Yakalskovich Oh yes, it's so 19th century, and not in a good steampunk kind of way. From Taxidermy of individual animals, it isn't far to the taxidermy of 'savages' as some museums in the 19th century actually did put on display.
Kitt Lviv Savage is a good way to describe it. What gets me is the people I've seen who like animal trophies (here and in South Africa) think that the heads and body parts somehow add class and sophistication, as if they are living in a stately mansion. The exact opposite seems true to me.
Maru Yakalskovich Until recently, there was a couple of hipsters living opposite my flat that my best friend and I used to call the 'Geweihheimers' (roughly 'Antlertons') for the pair of stag antlers they had on their living room wall; they may have found it terribly ironic, but we just found it slightly ridiculous. Then, however, Suzy Antlerton dropped a sprog, and they moved into the suburbs to raise it. Now, an elderly couple with minimal furniture and elaborate coloured lighting lives there. People here are quite entertaining.
Kitt Lviv lmao! I needed that laugh! (and I haven't heard the word Sprog used since the 70s :D) ... I wonder if the Antlertons are planning Sprog No. 2 so they can hang it off the other antler.
Maru Yakalskovich Oh, I'm sure once they arrived at the suburbs, they proceeded to have several more, the way people do. Alas, having moved away, I can't observe them any longer, so I don't know. ut the Decorating With Coloured Lights people are amusing to watch as well, to say nothing of the young Greek bloke living below the ex-Antlerton flat.
#HAES There is no 'good' or 'evil' food, and if you eat the evil sort, you're sinning. That is dieting BS. BUT: for different people, there are different foods they don't like or that aren't good for them. Some feel better as vegans. Some keep kosher or halal. Some feel more alert without fast sugars. Some feel more at ease without gluten. Some are lactose intolerant. Whatever it is for you or me -- feeling well has a lot to do with the freedom to eat what works best for you and your lifestyle!

Kitt Lviv No, I don't have an account with Tumblr. I do like the sound of nordic walking, there are many beautiful settings here to enjoy while getting fit.
Maru Yakalskovich Yep, it is fun! My best friend and i are going to do a kilometer or two after we finished our Sunday afternoon coffee just now. If it wasn't fun, I wouldn't bother, as it wouldn't be an element of HAES for me.-
Kitt Lviv Beautifully said! Please take a few lungfuls of fresh air for me!
Kitt Lviv Hi Maru ... I found this cynical but funny blog about interior decor - the third image here made me think of you :D http://fuckyournoguchicoffe...
Maru Yakalskovich Heee! Oh yes, the antlers, worthy of the Antlertons. There's a pair of cardboard antlers on the first page of that brilliant little tumblr, too.
I walk because I want to get more fit, not less fat. Thank you.

"Fat people who love themselves scare the shit out of people who don’t love themselves. Even fat people who are TRYING to love themselves scare the shit out of people who can’t do the same. And sometimes they have no idea what to do with that, so they act like assholes." - Tigress Osborn #HAES

Fetching pins…
Maru Yakalskovich Why do the concern trolls keep going splat on this post again and again and again? I have lots of other posts that challenge your assumptions as well. Please follow the links from the Fat Hate Bingo Cards (for example) before you rehash the same old knee-jerk reactions. Also, we don't say 'overweight' (over WHAT weight) or 'obese' (medicalisation), we say FAT. I am fat, and so are most of the other self-accepting fatties around here. Get used to it.-
Laura Haywood Personally, I know I feel better at a certain weight, which isn't saying I'm stick thin, but I am physically fit and feel great about my body. I think if you feel great (not just good) about yourself than that is what matters. So Kitt, Maru, Stacy and Crystal, if you feel great about yourselves than great! Good for you! But whether you are or are not overweight, you should feel confident enough in yourself to stick by your opinions and not feel the need to push them on others and call them uneducated.
Maru Yakalskovich If I feel confident about myself, I don't stand up for my opinions and never tell other people about them? Erm, what? That quite a non sequitur here. It make no logical sense. Also, what about all the poor suppressed fatties that language under the mainstream mandate of weight loss and have never head of alternatives? Should we leave those to moulder by themselves as we're not allowed to, erm, spread propaganda or whatever you're accusing us of? We shouldn't express our opinions or offer people alternatives to mainstream thinking because we are -- what?? This is all a great, great mystery.
Laura Haywood I'm not saying you shouldn't share your opinions. I'm simply saying that all though you feel ok about being fat and angry, some of us who are a healthy weight and are going to live a lot longer than you feel better this way. If I were to think the way you do, then personally it would sound like being fat is the only way to live. And if that was how the world thought, than the quality of life and mortality rates would go way down. And the amount of scooters being used not for actual disabilities for fat people who don't want walk around would go up as well. And look how when I asked you for another example of any article that says its ok to be fat, you gave me the same link you gave to another person. Are there actually any medical studies anywhere that have found anything positive in being fat? Most fat people are depressed, have high blood pressure, and have heart issues, while those of us who eat healthy food, exercise regularly and take care of our bodies rarely do.
Laura Haywood And the only reason I'm continuing to comment on this specific post is because of silly fat people like you who think that because you're fat we should all be fat. But I don't want to be FAT. I want to be healthy and fit and live longer. My body isn't going to give out on me like yours is. And what do you mean "poor suppressed fatties that LANGUAGE (not the right word there.) under the mainstream mandate of weight loss and have never heard of alternatives". I guess the saying is "Misery loves company"! Now it all makes sense!!!
